The Bay Hotel was built in 1890 to house the Commerce Bank. The solid double-story limestone building would, no doubt, have held an aura of security for the settlements 500 residents of the time. It survived as a bank until 1986 when, what was by then the National Bank, moved to new premises; at this time the old bank was tranformed into a hotell in 1998.
